About Cyclades 'Established in 1991, Cyclades Corporation has been a leader in providing innovative and effective connectivity and administrative products that address the evolving IT infrastructure
management needs of our customers. Today
Cyclades offers a comprehensive range of products including the AlterPath™ System of
Out-of-Band Infrastructure (OOBI — pronounced oo' bee) management products.
These include console servers, KVM and KVM over IP, power control, IPMI Management, and a
manager to control the entire out-of-band infrastructure. The AlterPath™ System provides secure,
alternate paths into the production IT infrastructure, enabling administrators to
remotely access, diagnose and restore disconnected assets to normal operation.
Designed to seamlessly integrate and deploy into the enterprise, Cyclades
AlterPath solutions offer a cost-effective and time-saving alternative to local
administration, improving overall availability, service levels and staff productivity.'
Cyclades history with Linux 'In 1993 Cyclades was the first hardware company
in the world to develop communication boards for Linux.
At that time, the Internet was booming and the combination of open
architecture hardware (Intel Pentium I machines) and Open Source (Linux)
enabled ISPs to build very powerful and cost-effective Internet servers.
Multiport serial cards were the core of the solution for a dial-up Internet
server. The Cyclades Cyclom-Y cards became the reference serial card for Linux.
It took more than a year for the second vendor to show a similar solution.
In 2000, Cyclades pioneered server and network management by being the first company
in the world to launch a Linux-based Console Server and to offer a development kit for
products with complete software source code, enabling customers to adapt the product to their specific needs.
Again, the Cyclades Console Server became the market reference, being adopted by the largest Internet
and banking firms worldwide to manage their entire network independent of an operating system. That prompted
competitors to model their new developments after Cyclades products.
As of 2005, it is easy to see the shift in the Console Server market towards the adoption of open
architectures, as a result of Cyclades initiatives in 2000.'
